Smaller Airlines Encouraged to Join an Alliance

With 3 strong global alliances; Star Alliance, Sky Team and OneWorld, smaller airlines may be at a competitive disadvantage. Speaking at the #World Travel Market, Michael Wisburn, CEO, Sky Team encouraged small airlines to join an airline alliance.

Emphasising the advantages in terms of knowledge sharing and strengthening its brand, the small airline will enjoy an increased network offering and substantial cost savings. Collective purchasing is another future prospect.

Sky team alliance consists of 15 airline members, and is second to Star Alliance which consists of 27 members. Sky Team’s members carry 500 million passengers per year to 926 destinations.
