Speed Networking, believed to be a derivative of Speed Dating, is gaining more attention from business professionals as a direct and effective means of communication.
At the Business Growth Show in Maidstone on October 2nd, 2012, alongside the business exhibition, participants enjoyed a rich program including 3 sessions of speed networking and two seminar speakers. The event was directed and well managed by Ian James who has recently bought the Business Growth Show Franchise for Kent. It was the first time for me to experience speed networking and I found it direct to the point as well as amusing.
East Malling Conference Centre in Maidstone was a good choice of venue. The entrance through the orchards is unique and relaxing, the conference and catering services were superb.
The two speakers were Ian George and QJ. In the exhibition area, supporting young people start up in business, Kent Foundation for Young Entrepreneurs was present as an exhibitor, offering advice and business support as well as a business mentoring service.(www.kentfoundation.org) The Federation of Small Businesses, and Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce were promoting their services in supporting Kent organisations, promoting their networking events, and membership. Other exhibiting organisations included Barter card, Creditsafe, Core Financial Services, Akasi Photography, LMI Leadership Management, Invicta IP, and others.
What is evident is that Kent is rich with its professionals in a variety of services including web design, marketing, social media, solicitors, lawyers, financial experts and consultants, internet and IT experts, copy writing, admin assistants, to name a few.
With the strong supply of expertise, one wonders whether at these times there is an equally strong demand for those services.
With the increasing number of organisations involved in networking events, one also wonders about the volume of new business that is being generated through those events. Does any organisation have related statistics?
